Hi James - loving your posts. Keep it coming! Your union workers one (the first) really sparked something for me, a strong thought from the past about fair access to communications skills. Makes me hope this space can become a learning one for newcomers, not just highbrow preaching to the converted. Re: adbusters - I ran TV Turn Off Week in Australia a few years back. It was a blast! Massive coverage on radio and in print, even had one of their subvertisments aired a few times on commercial TV! Not sure Adbusters is as relevant anymore though. Got the feeling they were a bit up themselves towards the end there. Couldn't help themselves making it about "cool" factor. Not very Web 2.0 dare I say?

Great to have you here James. I'm keen to hear how people are using blogs/social media in constructive ways and to support new comers. Indeed we will all be constant learners me thinks.... Be great to hear what your pressing questions are... really interested in art and design for activism... used to work with Adbusters and have my own art practice. Also very clear on the need for strong art and design element in all projects.

The Importance of Design in Activism

I originally published this post on July 6, 2007 at the Groundswell Blog. You can see the original post here.

This afternoon, while I was walking to the subway from work, I ran into a group of union workers raising awareness that their pay was not commensurate to the amount of profit they bring in to the company, thus their labor was undervalued. They handed me this flyer:… Continue
